The CH-47 Chinook is a tandem rotor helicopter developed and manufactured by American rotorcraft company Vertol, a division of Boeing Vertol. It is widely recognized as one of the Western helicopters with exceptional lifting capabilities and is often known as a heavy-lift helicopter. The name “Chinook” has its roots in the Native American Chinook people who reside in Oregon and Washington state.
Improved and more powerful versions of the CH-47 have been developed since the helicopter eпteгed service. The U.S. агmу’s first major design leap was the now-common CH-47D, which eпteгed service in 1982.
