Type-205 is a diesel-electric submarine inherited from the famous U-boat class submarine technology during World War II. It is a small and fast submarine built by the Howaldtswerke company in 1999. 1967.
Type-205 has a length of 43m, a width of 4.6m, a draft of 4.3m, and a diving displacement of 500 tons. The ship’s main weapons are eight 533mm torpedo tubes. The German Navy has retired all Type-205 submarines since 2004.
Compared with the Type-205, the Type-206 submarine has made a major technological breakthrough, especially the birth of super-durable austenitic non-magnetic steel. The new type of steel makes ships safer against naval mines and is almost invisible to devices measuring magnetic field disturbances.
Compact size and extremely quiet operation allow this submarine to sneak into carefully protected places. Type-206 has a displacement of 498 tons when submerged, and its main armament includes 8 torpedo tubes. Since 2011, the Type-206 submarine was retired to be replaced by the Type-212.

Type-212 is Germany’s first submarine to apply AIP independent air engine technology allowing quieter and longer operation underwater.
Weapons on the Type-212 submarine include eight 533mm torpedo tubes. This launch tube can fire DM24A fiber-optic guided torpedoes. The Type-212 is also equipped with an IDAS low-altitude air-to-air missile system to counter low-altitude aerial threats.
Type-214 is a variant of Type-212 intended for export. It applies most of the technology of the Type-212 including the AIP air independent engine.
The biggest difference is that the top secret non-magnetic steel on Type-212 is not used for Type-214.
South Korea, Greece and Portugal have ordered this state-of-the-art non-nuclear submarine for their navies.
Weapons on the ship include eight 533mm torpedo tubes, which can launch UGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship missiles.
