Guardians of Innovation: Unveiling the ARCHER Artillery Alliance’s сᴜttіпɡ-edɡe Mobile fігeрoweг for the United Kingdom

The ARCHER Artillery Alliance announces its approach for the UK’s Mobile Fires Platform and to revitalize critical UK artillery capabilities. BAE Systems, Babcock, and Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) join forces to offer the ARCHER wheeled mobile artillery system to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) as the replacement for the aging AS90. The alliance aims to provide an advanced technological system, representing the lowest risk solution for the Mobile Fires Platform (MFP) program as the UK seeks to modernize its 155mm capabilities. The three companies, each with a well-established supply chain in the UK, plan to collaborate with other UK businesses for program success. BAE Systems will lead the weapon system, including the barrel, and the gun control system. Additionally, BAE Systems will set up and manage the Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT) facility. Babcock International Group will support responsiveness for the consolidation of the surveillance and acquisition system, sharing its significant manufacturing and maintenance capabilities. RBSL will be the UK lead for the RMMV HX 8X8 truck chassis and prepare the cabin for integration with the ARCHER artillery system.

BAE Systems, recently secured a contract for an additional 48 ARCHER systems for the Swedish Army, plans to transfer technology from its existing production line in Sweden to establish a UK-based Mobile Fires Platform (MFP) production line. This move is expected to create over 350 new high-skilled jobs in the UK, boosting the Alliance’s supply chain. BAE Systems aims to leverage its expertise in Sweden and the UK to re-establish sovereign barrel manufacturing in the UK, providing an opportunity to generate substantial UK industrial content over the program’s entire lifespan. ARCHER, a fully automated system, is purpose-built to rapidly respond to threats and deliver precision fires. Capable of firing six rounds in less than two minutes, the ARCHER is the ultimate shoot-and-scoot system for superior survivability on the modern battlefield.Fires both conventional artillery ammunition and BONUS Anti-Armor and Excubitor Precision Guided Munitions, the ARCHER system, originally developed by Sweden and mounted on a 6×6 Volvo articulated hauler chassis, has been shortlisted for two renowned international competitions and is available on an 8×8 RMMV HX2 truck. BAE Systems aims to offer the ARCHER wheeled mobile artillery system to the UK Ministry of Defence as a replacement for the legacy AS90 self-propelled artillery gun. ARCHER is a proven, advanced technology system, representing the lowest risk solution for the Mobile Fires Platform (MFP) program, as the UK seeks to modernize its 155mm capabilities. ARCHER is already in service with the British Army, serving as the interim solution to replace the AS90 systems as the UK transitions to a permanent solution. In addition to being selected by Sweden and serving as the UK’s interim solution, Switzerland has also chosen ARCHER for its artillery modernization.
