The USS Kitty Hawk, a former aircraft carrier, silently glided through the fog as if it were a phantom vessel, bidding farewell to Bremerton for the final time today. Upon examining certain photographs, one can observe the absence of its four propellers, now positioned at the rear of the flight deck. Having been launched in 1960, this mighty ship faithfully served for 49 years before being decommissioned and finding its place among the inactive fleet, known as the “mothball fleet,” at Puget Sound Naval Yard.

This event was truly amazing to capture. Unfortunately, the fog was so dense that I couldn’t capture a clear shot above the flight deck, and at times, the superstructure vanished entirely into the fog. What made it even more meaningful than taking the photos was meeting and spending time with people around the venue. Whether it was fellow photographers, neighbors from Bainbridge Island, or the incredible family at Foss, I learned new names and was introduced to more fascinating individuals today than in the past entire year. You are all amazing, and I sincerely thank you for your time and effort.
