British explorer Alfred Isaac Midleton traversed the remote corners of the world in pursuit of zoological, botanical, and archaeological marvels at the end of the 19th century. These newly discovered photos help illuminate some incredible discoveries during a series of unknown missions in regions of Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Amazon rainforest. The last photo is an 18th-century artist’s rendering of the lost city of Dawleetoo based on local Sumatran folklore.
