In Chobe National Park, a group of elephants showed their protective and nurturing nature by safeguarding a young calf from becoming prey to a pack of hungry lionesses. Despite their attempts to ambush the calf, the lionesses were unable to overpower it without help. Fortunately, the rest of the elephant herd arrived just in time to defend the vulnerable calf and chase away the predators. According to the photographer who witnessed the incident, the elephants did not seem rattled or threatened by the presence of the lions. It is clear that the calf was in good hands with such a loyal and brave herd looking after it.

In Chobe National Park, photographer James Gifford snapped photos of a lioness attempting to attack a young elephant. Even with another lioness joining in, the elephant calf was able to run away to the safety of its herd. The adult elephants then faced off against the lion pride until they backed away, realizing the risk of engaging with larger animals. Five hungry lion cubs witnessed their mothers’ failure to take down the young elephant.
